Special Weather Statement issued May 27 at 2:09AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 207 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 7 miles south of Kincaid Springs to Maytown. Movement was east at 70 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Ashland, Portsmouth, Ironton, Jackson, Wellston, Grayson, Louisa, Coal Grove, Olive Hill, Oak Hill, Blaine, Cannonsburg, Lake Vesuvius, Grayson Lake State Park, Yatesville Lake State Park, Carter Caves State Park, Wheelersburg, Kenova, New Boston, and Catlettsburg. This includes the following highways... Interstate 64 in Kentucky between mile markers 150 and 191. Interstate 64 in West Virginia between mile markers 1 and 2. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Storms within this line may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 600 AM EDT for northeastern Kentucky.
