Flood Watch issued July 12 at 2:31PM EDT until July 12 at 10:00PM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Portions of central, east central, south central, and southeast Virginia, including the following areas, in central Virginia, Amelia, Cumberland, Eastern Chesterfield (Including Col. Heights), Eastern Hanover, Eastern Henrico, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Western Chesterfield and Western Henrico (Including the City of Richmond). In east central Virginia, Charles City and New Kent. In south central Virginia, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway and Prince George (including Hopewell and Petersburg). In southeast Virginia, Chesapeake, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, James City, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk, Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach and York. * WHEN...Until 10 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A quasi west-east upper trough remains nearly stationary from KY through VA this afternoon. This has allowed for scattered showers earlier today and last night with locally heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals have locally already exceeded 2.5 to 3 inches in some locations. The latest guidance shows showers and embedded storms becoming more widespread this afternoon with localized totals of 3 to 5 inches possible. Coastal Flood Statement issued July 12 at 2:46PM EDT until July 12 at 10:00PM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA * WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...Surry, James City, Newport News, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, Norfolk and Portsmouth Counties, and Chesapeake and Suffolk. * WHEN...This evening. * IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is possible in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Do not drive through flooded roadways.
