HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and power lines. * Severe thunderstorms will be near... New Rochelle and Flushing around 415 PM EDT. Glen Cove and Port Washington around 420 PM EDT. Stamford and Mineola around 425 PM EDT. Westbury and Oyster Bay around 430 PM EDT. Norwalk and Syosset around 435 PM EDT. Plainview and Huntington around 440 PM EDT. Huntington Station and Northport around 445 PM EDT. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Dangerous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for southern Connecticut...and southeastern New York.

Central Westchester County in southeastern New York... * Until 715 PM EDT. * At 412 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Greenwich, Westport, Darien, Wilton, Bedford, Pleasantville, Armonk and Thornwood. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. If you are in a basement, be prepared to move to a higher floor.

Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected this morning into tonight. Averaged rainfall totals will be between 1 and 2 inches, with localized swaths of 3 to 4 inches possible.
