Flood Warning issued June 19 at 4:47AM CDT until June 19 at 4:00PM CDT by NWS Duluth MN * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Cook, Lake and St. Louis Counties. * WHEN...Until 400 PM CDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 442 AM CDT Wednesday, Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen and rivers and streams remain high and some continue to rapidly increase. Law enforcement reports flooding along portions of Highway 61 along with debris on the road, especially between Beaver Bay and Lutsen. The Baptism and Beaver Rivers continue to rapidly increase. These high river levels will impact many of the hiking and camping areas along the North Shore. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Grand Marais, Gunflint Lake, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Grand Portage, Clear Lake, Lutsen, Tofte, Beaver Bay, Fairbanks, Wolf Lake, George Manitou State Park, Dumbbell Lake, Sugar Loaf Cove, Little Marais, Taconite Harbor, Finland, Isabella, Temperance River State Park and Forest Center. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away from those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terrain can quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall.
