severe thunderstorm warning in effect At 3:46 p.m. CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This severe thunderstorm is located 5 kilometres northwest of Emo, moving north at 60 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts and nickel size hail. Locations impacted include: Emo, Dermid and Lake Despair. ### Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

tornado watch in effect Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Timing: This afternoon or early this evening. Hazards: Risk of tornadoes Wind gusts up to 100 km/h Heavy downpours Nickel size hail Discussion: A line of thunderstorms is expected to push eastwards through northwestern Ontario this afternoon or early this evening. The main threats with these thunderstorms will be strong wind gusts and a tornado threat. In addition, the moist airmass will allow for storms to produce heavy downpours. ### Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
