Flash Flood Warning issued July 27 at 4:06AM CDT until July 27 at 5:00AM CDT by NWS Lincoln IL At 402 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3.5 and 5 inches of rain have fallen from north of Effingham to east of Heartville. Personal weather stations have measured 3.8 inches southeast of downtown Effingham, and 3.7 inches near the I-57 and highway 45 exit on the north side of town. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Effingham, Teutopolis, Watson, Dieterich, Heartville and Effingham County Airport. This includes the following highways... Interstate 70 between mile markers 89 and 101. Interstate 57 between mile markers 150 and 167. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

Extreme Heat Warning issued July 27 at 2:02AM CDT until July 27 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Lincoln IL * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with afternoon heat index values up to 115. * WHERE...Portions of central, east central and southeast Illinois. * WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Thunderstorms could move into area late this afternoon or evening, cooling temperatures and heat indices. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. When possible reschedule outdoor strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
