Flood Watch issued July 5 at 3:40PM EDT until July 7 at 6:00AM EDT by NWS Upton NY * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut, including the following areas, Northern Fairfield, Northern Middlesex, Northern New Haven, Northern New London, Southern Fairfield, Southern Middlesex, Southern New Haven and Southern New London, northeast New Jersey, including the following areas, Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex, Eastern Passaic, Eastern Union, Hudson, Western Bergen, Western Essex, Western Passaic and Western Union, and southeast New York, including the following areas, Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York (Manhattan), Northeast Suffolk, Northern Nassau, Northern Queens, Northern Westchester, Northwest Suffolk, Orange, Putnam, Richmond (Staten Island), Rockland, Southeast Suffolk, Southern Nassau, Southern Queens, Southern Westchester and Southwest Suffolk. * WHEN...Through late Monday night. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of urban areas, rivers, creeks, streams, and other low lying and flood prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms through Monday night will likely produce significant total rainfall of 2 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts of 4 inches or more. Hourly rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible. Thunderstorms will be near... Dering Harbor, Central Long Island Sound, Horton Point, Shelter Island Sound, and Shelter Island around 1145 PM EDT. New Haven Harbor, The Thimbles, Falkner Island, and Six Mile Reef around 1150 PM EDT. Gardiners Bay around 1155 PM EDT. Gardiners Island, Napeague Bay, Orient Point, and Madison Reef around 1200 AM EDT. Plum Island and Long Sand Shoal around 1205 AM EDT. Westbrook Center around 1210 AM EDT. Montauk Shoal, the mouth of the Connecticut River, and Montauk Point around 1215 AM EDT. The Race and Western Block Island Sound around 1220 AM EDT. Mariners can expect locally gusty winds to around 30 knots and higher seas, a few lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters in the near shore waters should consider seeking safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.
