Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued June 20 at 8:57PM CDT until June 20 at 9:30PM CDT by NWS Goodland KS At 857 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 10 miles north of Utica to near Shields to 6 miles east of Leoti, moving southeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Two inch hail and 70 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Leoti, Quinter, Gove, Russell Springs, The Monument Rocks, Selkirk, and Marienthal. This includes Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 103 and 113. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for west central Kansas. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. These thunderstorms will produce strong winds resulting in areas of near zero visibility in blowing dirt. Use extreme caution if you must travel and be alert for rapidly changing visibility.

Dust Storm Warning issued June 20 at 8:01PM MDT until June 20 at 8:15PM MDT by NWS Goodland KS At 800 PM MDT/900 PM CDT/, a wall of dust was along a line extending from 4 miles northwest of Modoc to 9 miles southeast of Tribune to 7 miles west of Horace, moving south at 20 mph. HAZARD...Less than one quarter mile visibility with damaging wind in excess of 60 mph. SOURCE...Trained weather spotters. IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel. This impacts highways 27, 40 and 25. Locations impacted include... Leoti, Marienthal, and Lydia. Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, then pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake. Motorists should not drive into a dust storm. PULL ASIDE STAY ALIVE!
