Rock River at Rock Rapids affecting Lyon County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Rock River at Rock Rapids. * WHEN...Until early Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, the higher banks on the left side of the river, and the lower banks on the right side, will begin flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:15 PM CDT Thursday the stage was 13.4 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 9:15 PM CDT Thursday was 13.4 feet. - Forecast...The river will rise to 16.1 feet early Saturday morning. It will then fall Saturday morning. It will rise to 16.7 feet early Sunday morning. It will then fall below flood stage early Tuesday morning. - Flood stage is 13.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Flash Flood Warning issued June 21 at 5:46AM CDT until June 21 at 9:15AM CDT by NWS Sioux Falls SD At 546 AM CDT, Emergency management reported thunderstorms produced heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 7 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Canton, Rock Rapids, Parker, Lennox, Freeman, George, Worthing, Larchwood, Inwood, Marion, Viborg, Menno, Doon, Little Rock, Hurley, Lester, Chancellor, Alvord, Monroe and Clayton. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
