Flood Advisory issued July 4 at 7:23AM EDT until July 4 at 9:15AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of south central and southeast Kentucky, including the following counties, in south central Kentucky, Laurel. In southeast Kentucky, Clay and Knox. * WHEN...Until 915 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 722 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen in the hardest hit areas since 6:45 AM. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area through 8:30 AM. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Marydell, Lake, Bush, Sasser, Byron, Lida, Hooker, Urban, Blackwater, Portersburg, Cane Creek, Grace, Gibbs, Tedders, Sidell, Fogertown and Tuttle. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Special Weather Statement issued July 4 at 7:21AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY At 721 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Sprule, or 10 miles north of Barbourville, moving north at 10 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Manchester, Booneville, Buckhorn, Turin, Travellers Rest, Blake, Brightshade, Southfork, Cowcreek, Fogertown, Tyner, Earnestville, Goose Rock, Bush, Cranes Nest, Ida May, Shepherdtown, Herron, Hooker, and Delvinta. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
