Special Weather Statement issued June 13 at 8:41PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS At 840 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Burns to near Potwin to near Valley Center. Movement was south at 60 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Wichita, Derby, El Dorado, Andover, Haysville, Augusta, Park City, Bel Aire, Mulvane, Rose Hill, Douglass, Towanda, Benton, Leon, Downtown Wichita, Kechi, Eastborough, Potwin, Northeast Wichita, and East Wichita. This includes the following highways... Interstate 135 between Mile Markers 0 and 19. Interstate 35 between Mile Markers 34 and 80. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. If on or near El Dorado Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM CDT for south central Kansas.
