Flood Warning issued June 21 at 8:43PM CDT until June 22 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Chicago IL ...The National Weather Service in Chicago IL has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Indiana...Illinois... Little Calumet River at Munster (Hohman Avenue) affecting Cook and Lake IN Counties. Thorn Creek at Thornton affecting Cook County. For the Little Calumet River...including Munster (Hohman Avenue)... Minor flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Thorn Creek from Near Glenwood downstream to confluence with Little Calumet River, including the Thornton gauge. * WHEN...From late tonight to Monday evening. * IMPACTS...At 9.0 feet, Water begins to be diverted through Thorn Creek Diversion Tunnel. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:15 PM CDT Sunday the stage was 5.6 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late tonight to a crest of just above 9 feet tomorrow morning or around midday. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow afternoon. - Flood stage is 9.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood A Flood Warning means water levels above flood stage are imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. These forecasts are based on observed precipitation as well as forecast precipitation 24 hours into the future. Flood Warning issued June 22 at 3:07AM CDT until June 22 at 6:15AM CDT by NWS Chicago IL * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...Portions of northeast Illinois, including the following county, Cook and northwest Indiana, including the following counties, Lake IN and Porter. * WHEN...Until 615 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 301 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated that the rainfall was ending across the warned area. In spite of this, runoff from the 2 and 2.5 inches of rain that fell acorss the area on Sunday has caused significant rises on area rivers and creeks, with several gauges indicating that flooding is ongoing. This is particularly the case along the portions of the Little Calumet, Thorn Creek, Butterfield Creek, Deer Creek, Lansing Ditch and Hart Ditch. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Chicago, Hammond, Gary, Tinley Park, Calumet City, Portage, Merrillville, Valparaiso, Chicago Heights, Roseland, East Chicago, Schererville, Hobart, Lansing, Oak Forest, Harvey, Highland, Blue Island, Munster and Dolton. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood A Flood Warning means flooding is imminent or may already be occurring.
