Coastal Flood Watch issued September 22 at 10:23AM EDT until September 26 at 12:00AM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC * WHAT...For the Beach Hazards Statement, dangerous rip currents. For the Coastal Flood Watch, 2 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level possible in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...Northern Outer Banks and Hatteras Island. * WHEN...For the Beach Hazards Statement, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the Coastal Flood Watch, from Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening. * IMPACTS...Up to 2 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in some areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in an elevated threat of property damage. Flooding may extend inland from the waterfront threatening some homes and businesses. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. Vulnerable areas along Highway 12 on Ocracoke and Hatteras Island are especially at risk for inundation from the oceanside. Dangerous rip currents. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide, which will occur around 10:00 AM today. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.

Wind Advisory issued September 22 at 1:39PM EDT until September 24 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC * WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected. * WHERE...East Carteret and Mainland Dare Counties, and Hatteras Island, Northern Outer Banks, and Ocracoke Island. The strongest winds are expected for areas adjacent to bodies of water. * WHEN...From 2 PM Wednesday to 8 PM EDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong coastal low will develop offshore east of the Carolinas and move north towards the New England coast by this weekend. A period of moderate to strong winds is expected to impact portions of the coast Wednesday into Thursday. These strong winds may last longer depending on the track of the low. Secure outdoor objects.
