Flood Advisory issued June 8 at 11:20PM CDT until June 9 at 2:30AM CDT by NWS Chicago IL * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of northeast Illinois, including the following counties, Kankakee and Will and northwest Indiana, including the following counties, Lake IN, Newton and Porter. * WHEN...Until 230 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Roads and streets may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1119 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen over parts of the Advisory area in the past hour. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the Advisory area. This additional rain will result in areas of flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hammond, Gary, Portage, Merrillville, Valparaiso, East Chicago, Schererville, Hobart, Crown Point, Highland, Munster, Chesterton, Cedar Lake, Lowell, Momence, Griffith, Dyer, St. John, Lake Station and Lakes of the Four Seasons. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood A Flood Advisory means minor flooding along waterways and other poor drainage areas is imminent or may already be occurring. Persons in the advisory area should use caution and avoid flood waters. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
