For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 99. For the Wind Advisory, east winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected. * WHERE...El Paso and Hudspeth Counties of west Texas. Portions of southern New Mexico lowlands. * WHEN...For the Blowing Dust Advisory, until 8 PM MDT this evening. For the Heat Advisory, until 6 AM MDT Thursday. For the Wind Advisory, from 9 PM this evening to 6 AM MDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Persons with respiratory problems should make preparations to stay indoors until the storm passes. Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility to near zero. If you encounter blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn the lights all the way off and keep foot off the brake pedal. Remember, 'Pull Aside, Stay Alive'. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
