Heat Advisory issued June 11 at 2:28PM EDT until June 11 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC * WHAT...For the first Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 105. For the second Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 107 expected. * WHERE...A portion of central North Carolina, including the Coastal Plain and eastern portions of the Piedmont and Sandhills. * WHEN...For the first Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the second Heat Advisory, from 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued June 11 at 7:17PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 717 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 7 miles southwest of Bailey, or 15 miles northeast of Smithfield, moving southeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Goldsboro, Clayton, Fremont, Micro, Selma, Kenly, Lucama, Middlesex, Stantonsburg, and Pikeville. This includes the following highways... Interstate 95 between Mile Markers 107 and 101. NC Highway 264 between Mile Markers 23 and 25. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
