At 934 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Mouth of the Connecticut River to near Moriches Bay to 7 nm west of Moriches Inlet to near Great South Bay, moving southeast at 30 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts in excess of 50 knots and small hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Boats could suffer significant structural damage in high winds. Small craft could capsize in suddenly higher waves. severe thunderstorms will be near... Dering Harbor, Great Peconic Bay, Great South Bay, Little Peconic Bay, Moriches Bay, Moriches Inlet, Plum Island, Shelter Island Sound, Westhampton Beach, and Shelter Island around 940 PM EDT. Gardiners Bay, Shinnecock Bay, and Shinnecock Inlet around 945 PM EDT. Gardiners Island around 955 PM EDT. Napeague Bay around 1005 PM EDT. Montauk Shoal and Montauk Point around 1020 PM EDT. Buoy 44017 around 1030 PM EDT. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, small hail, high waves, lightning, and heavy rain are expected with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
