Flash Flood Warning issued July 23 at 6:12PM CDT until July 23 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Houston/Galveston TX At 612 PM CDT, emergency management reported vehicles stranded near US-59 and Highway 6 in Sugar Land as a result of prolonged heavy rain. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area, but rain is gradually moving out of the areas that received the most rainfall. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Northwestern Pearland, Sugar Land, Missouri City, Stafford, Fresno, First Colony, Meadows Place, Fondren Gardens, Fort Bend Houston, Brays Oaks, Fifth Street, Westbury, Westwood, Meyerland Area, Central Southwest, Willowbend, northern Riverstone, Alief, South Main and Sunnyside. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

Areas of slow moving or standing water expected to continue to gradually recede. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 755 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 4 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
