Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued June 4 at 1:54PM CDT until June 4 at 8:00PM CDT by NWS Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 389 IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN MINNESOTA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 14 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA BENTON KANDIYOHI MCLEOD MEEKER MORRISON RENVILLE SHERBURNE SIBLEY STEARNS TODD WRIGHT IN EAST CENTRAL MINNESOTA ISANTI KANABEC MILLE LACS THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF CAMBRIDGE, ELK RIVER, GAYLORD, HUTCHINSON, LITCHFIELD, LITTLE FALLS, LONG PRAIRIE, MONTICELLO, MORA, OLIVIA, PRINCETON, SAUK RAPIDS, ST CLOUD, AND WILLMAR.

Special Weather Statement issued June 4 at 2:00PM CDT by NWS Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN At 200 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 7 miles north of Brooten to 5 miles north of Sacred Heart. Movement was northeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Willmar, Sauk Centre, Clara City, New London, Raymond, Kerkhoven, Brooten, Belgrade, Prinsburg, Maynard, Pennock, and Norway Lake. This includes the following highways... Interstate 94 in Minnesota between mile markers 121 and 133. U.S. Highway 12 between mile markers 56 and 75. U.S. Highway 71 between mile markers 115 and 123, and between mile markers 125 and 172. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service office in the Twin Cities. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM CDT for central Minnesota.
