Flash Flood Warning issued July 5 at 3:48PM CDT until July 5 at 5:30PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 348 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 3 to 5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... New Orleans, Harvey, Timberlane, Marrero, Belle Chasse, Chalmette, Avondale, Metairie, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Terrytown, Woodmere, Arabi, Bridge City, Elmwood and River Ridge. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 3:55PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 354 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts over marine areas over Violet, or near Chalmette, moving southeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Waterspouts and winds in excess of 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... New Orleans, Chalmette, Avondale, Marrero, Harvey, Timberlane, Belle Chasse, Metairie, Port Sulphur, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Jean Lafitte, Lake Catherine, Poydras, River Ridge, Myrtle Grove, Ama, and Pointe A La Hache. This includes Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 233 and 237. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
