Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Special Weather Statement issued July 2 at 4:17PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC At 417 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 4 miles north of Downtown Greenville, or near Cherrydale Point, moving southwest at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Greenville, Taylors, Berea, Welcome, Travelers Rest, Paris Mountain State Park, Cherrydale Point, and Furman University. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
