Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 20 at 3:53PM CDT until July 20 at 4:30PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA At 353 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Ackley Municipal Airport, or 14 miles northeast of Eldora, moving southeast at 60 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Webster City, Iowa Falls, Hampton, Parkersburg, Ackley, Jewell Junction, Aplington, Big Wall Lake, Alden, Dumont, Radcliffe, Dows, Ellsworth, New Hartford, Latimer, Williams, Steamboat Rock, Coulter, Stout, and Blairsburg. This includes Interstate 35 between mile markers 131 and 169. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for central, north central and northeastern Iowa. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
