Flood Warning issued September 16 at 5:59AM CDT until September 17 at 6:00AM CDT by NWS Topeka KS ...The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Kansas... Marais Des Cygnes River above Reading affecting Lyon and Osage Counties. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Marais Des Cygnes River above Reading. * WHEN...From this morning to Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...At 19.0 feet, Low lying areas along the river flood. At 21.0 feet, County Road Y 5 near the gage floods, 3 miles north of Reading. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 5:45 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 17.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this morning to a crest of 20.5 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late this afternoon. - Flood stage is 19.0 feet. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Flood Watch issued September 16 at 2:39AM CDT until September 16 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Topeka KS * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of central and east central Kansas, including the following counties, in central Kansas, Dickinson. In east central Kansas, Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Geary, Lyon, Morris, Osage, Shawnee and Wabaunsee. * WHEN...Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen across much of east central and northeast Kansas through the night. Any additional rainfall may cause localize flooding. Runoff from earlier heavy rainfall may cause some rivers and creeks to approach flood stage. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
