Special Weather Statement issued July 10 at 2:54PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC At 254 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 6 miles east of Laurens to 11 miles north of Greenwood to 7 miles west of Abbeville. Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Greenwood, Laurens, Abbeville, Clinton, Ninety Six, Joanna, Cross Hill, Cokesbury, Waterloo, and Hodges. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. If on or near Lake Greenwood, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
