Flood Watch issued September 29 at 3:42AM CDT until October 2 at 1:00AM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Much of central Iowa. * WHEN...From this evening through late Thursday night. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A prolong period of showers and storms is forecast Tuesday night through Thursday evening. This rain will fall on saturated soil. Rainfall totals will range from 2 to 4 inches in a southwest to northeast oriented band across central Iowa, with locally higher amounts likely. This rainfall may lead to flash flooding. In addition, poor drainage and low lying area may experience ponding. All this rainfall will cause rises on areas rivers, which may exceed flood stage in at least a few locations. For the latest stream observations and forecasts refer to weather.gov/desmoines/water.
