Flood Watch issued June 21 at 2:17AM CDT until June 22 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA An increasing risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding is anticipated over far northern Iowa this morning and then later this evening and overnight. Showers and storms early this morning have trended farther south with an increased likelihood of heavy rain in portions of northern Iowa through the morning hours. Rain may continue to linger into the daylight hours, but will be generally scattered in nature with additional widespread heavy rain arriving later this evening until around dawn Saturday morning. Some uncertainty remains as to the exact axis of heaviest rainfall, but current indications are that the heaviest rainfall will be near the Iowa Minnesota border. If you live in or near the watch, please monitor later statements for updates. Review flooding safety plans now and be prepared if you must take action. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Iowa, including the following counties, in north central Iowa, Cerro Gordo, Hancock, Kossuth, Winnebago and Worth. In northwest Iowa, Emmet and Palo Alto. * WHEN...From this morning through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possible. Rapid rises in creeks, streams and urban flooding will be possible. Field flooding and washed out county roads will also be possible. Rainfall rates may approach 2 inches per hour in the heavier storms. Nighttime flooding is especially dangerous due to the lack of light and visibility of impacts.
