Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 20 at 4:56PM EDT until July 20 at 5:30PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 455 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Clayton, or 11 miles southeast of Raleigh, moving east at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Clayton, Zebulon, Knightdale, Wendell, Emit, Flowers, and Buckhorn Reservoir. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 308 and 312. NC Highway 264 between Mile Markers 20 and 22. Straight line winds can blow down trees, power lines, and damage mobile homes and other buildings. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed. Stay away from windows as flying debris generated by damaging winds can be deadly. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Wake Forest, Garner, RDU International, Apex, Holly Springs, Morrisville, and Knightdale. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 280 and 306. Interstate 440 between Mile Markers 1 and 16. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 0 and 24. US 1 between Mile Markers 90 and 101. the Durham Freeway between Mile Markers 2 and 5. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
