Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued September 20 at 12:00AM EDT until September 20 at 12:30AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 1159 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Lake Hope State Park, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Athens, Albany, Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski, and Carpenter. A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, if one is spotted act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Special Weather Statement issued September 19 at 11:42PM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 1142 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Hocking Hills State Park, or 7 miles west of Lake Hope State Park, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Athens, Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski, and Creola. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
