Flash Flood Warning issued September 20 at 2:16AM EDT until September 20 at 6:30AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV FFWRLX The National Weather Service in Charleston has extended the * Flash Flood Warning for... Central Athens County in southeastern Ohio... Northeastern Vinton County in southeastern Ohio... * Until 630 AM EDT. * At 216 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Athens, Nelsonville, Lake Hope State Park, Chauncey, Buchtel, Amesville, The Plains and Stroud Run State Park. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

Special Weather Statement issued September 20 at 2:54AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 254 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Albany to 7 miles northwest of Rutland to 6 miles southeast of South Webster. Movement was east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Athens, Jackson, Wellston, Point Pleasant, Gallipolis, Pomeroy, Oak Hill, Rio Grande, Albany, Coolville, Rutland, New Haven, Mason, Tuppers Plains, Gallia, Middleport, Chester, Syracuse, Hartford City, and Henderson. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
