South Central Lancaster County in eastern Virginia... Northwestern Mathews County in eastern Virginia... Southwestern Middlesex County in eastern Virginia... Northeastern Gloucester County in southeastern Virginia... * Until 200 PM EDT. * At 1050 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Urbanna, Hartfield, Saluda, Healys, Harmony Village, Cooper, Grafton, Cash, Greys Point, Harcum, Bertrand, Millenbeck, Wake, Slabtown, Senora and Stampers. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Coastal Flood Advisory issued September 22 at 6:28AM EDT until September 23 at 4:00PM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA * WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. For the Coastal Flood Watch, one to three feet of inundation above ground level possible in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...New Kent, Gloucester, Eastern King William, Eastern King and Queen and York Counties. * WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 4 PM this afternoon to 4 PM EDT Wednesday. For the Coastal Flood Watch, from Wednesday afternoon through late Thursday night. * IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure may be inundated. Some shoreline erosion may occur. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
