The upward adjustment is due to changes in forecast rainfall amounts and timing. * WHAT...Major flooding is forecast. * WHERE...The Des Moines River at Fort Dodge, or from the municipal power dam to Lehigh. * WHEN...From late Saturday night until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 17.0 feet, Water reaches the bottom of the railroad trestle approach. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 3:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 8.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage early Sunday morning and continue rising to a crest of 18.0 feet early Wednesday afternoon. - Flood stage is 10.5 feet. Flood Watch issued June 21 at 11:46AM CDT until June 22 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA A moderate risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding is forecast over northern Iowa later today and overnight. Storms will be redeveloping this afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall expected later this evening to early Saturday morning. Some uncertainty remains as to the exact axis of heaviest rainfall, but current indications are that the heaviest rainfall in north central Iowa will be generally between Highway 20 and the Iowa Minnesota border. If you live in or near the watch, please monitor the weather closely this afternoon and tonight. Review flooding safety plans now and be prepared if you must take action. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest, and west central Iowa, including the following counties, in central Iowa, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin and Webster. In north central Iowa, Butler, Franklin, Humboldt and Wright. In northeast Iowa, Black Hawk and Bremer. In northwest Iowa, Pocahontas. In west central Iowa, Calhoun and Sac. * WHEN...From 7 PM CDT this evening through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Expected rainfall totals may reach 3 to 7 inches in some areas with locally higher amounts are possible. Rapid rises in creeks, streams and urban flooding will be possible. Field flooding and washed out county roads will also be possible. Rainfall rates may approach 2 inches per hour in the heavier storms. Nighttime flooding is especially dangerous due to the lack of light and ability to see flooding impacts.
