Extreme Heat Warning issued July 2 at 1:48PM CDT until July 3 at 12:00AM CDT by NWS Chicago IL * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values of 100 to 105 degrees. * WHERE...Central Cook, Northern Cook, and Southern Cook Counties. * WHEN...Until midnight CDT tonight. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The magnitude of anticipated heat, combined with oppressive warmth at night will lead to hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. Residents of the city of Chicago can call 3 1 1 to request well being checks for elderly friends or family members, or for information on finding the nearest cooling center. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Flood Advisory issued July 2 at 10:21PM CDT until July 3 at 12:00AM CDT by NWS Chicago IL * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of northeast Illinois, including the following counties, Cook, DuPage and Lake IL. * WHEN...Until midnight CDT tonight. * IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1020 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated the heaviest rainfall had shifted south of the area. Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible over the area this evening. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Elgin, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Palatine, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Hoffman Estates, Glenview, Buffalo Grove, Bartlett, Streamwood, Hanover Park, Wheeling, Northbrook, Elk Grove Village, Highland Park, West Chicago, Lake Forest, Rolling Meadows and Roselle. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood A Flood Advisory means minor flooding along waterways and other poor drainage areas is imminent or may already be occurring. Persons in the advisory area should use caution and avoid flood waters. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
