Fire Weather Watch issued June 11 at 12:34PM MDT until June 14 at 9:00PM MDT by NWS El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM ...CRITICAL FIRE DANGER EXPECTED FRIDAY... .Wind speeds are expected to increase across western areas of New Mexico Friday as a weather system approaches from the west. Southwesterly winds of 25 to 30 mph will be common during the afternoon and evening hours. These winds will combine with very hot and dry conditions resulting in an increase in fire danger across western fire zones including the Gila region along with southwest New Mexico. The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has issued a Fire Weather Watch, which is in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire weather zone 110. Fire weather zone 111. * WIND...Southwest 25-30 mph with gusts to 35 mph. * HUMIDITY...7 to 10 percent lowlands and 8 to 12 percent mountains. * EXPERIMENTAL RFTI...6 to 7 Critical to Extreme * IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.

Heat Advisory issued June 11 at 6:35PM MDT until June 15 at 6:00AM MDT by NWS El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM * WHAT...Hot temperatures of 102 to 105 expected for the desert lowlands. Hot temperatures of 98 to 101 for the Gila and Sacramento Mountains Foothills below 7500 feet. * WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest New Mexico and southwest Texas. * WHEN...From noon Wednesday to 6 AM MDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
