South Central Emery County in central Utah... * Until 800 PM MDT. * At 524 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the San Rafael Swell, including Iron Wash, Ernie Canyon and Eardley Canyon. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 0.75 inches in 30 minutes. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of slot canyons and normally dry washes. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Iron Wash, Ernie Canyon, Eardley Canyon, and other nearby slot canyons within the San Rafael Swell. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

Flood Watch issued September 15 at 11:58AM MDT until September 17 at 6:00AM MDT by NWS Salt Lake City UT * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of Utah, including the following areas, San Rafael Swell and Capitol Reef National Park and Vicinity. * WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, dry washes, slot canyons, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations such as slickrock areas and recent burn scars. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Deep moisture will remain in place across the region. Several disturbances will fuel development of thunderstorms with rainfall rates in excess of 0.25 to 0.50 inches per hour. In areas with training thunderstorms, rainfall rates will exceed 0.50 inches per hour.
