Flash Flood Warning issued July 9 at 7:42PM EDT until July 9 at 8:30PM EDT by NWS Mount Holly NJ At 742 PM EDT, emergency management reported flash flooding occurring in Hockessin. Between 1.5 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses. Some locations that may experience flash flooding include... Newark, Chester, Swarthmore, Arden, Ashland, Greenville, Hockessin, Talleyville, Pike Creek, North Star, Elam and Landenberg. This includes Interstate 476 in Pennsylvania near mile marker 1. Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

Flood Watch issued July 9 at 5:20PM EDT until July 10 at 12:00AM EDT by NWS Mount Holly NJ * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Pennsylvania, including the following areas, Delaware, Eastern Chester, Philadelphia and Western Chester. * WHEN...Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop through this evening, capable of producing heavy downpours. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, possibly as high as 3 inches per hour, are likely and short term training could result in flooding over southeast Pennsylvania. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
