Flash Flood Warning issued July 4 at 1:32AM CDT until July 4 at 6:30AM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA At 132 AM CDT, local law enforcement in Nevada reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. This was causing unusual street flooding in Nevada in locations that do not typically experience this level of flooding. This has caused a vehicle to get stuck in a couple feet of water. Between 2 and 4.5 inches of rain have fallen with some of the highest amounts over northern Ames. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Law enforcement and rain gages reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Ames, Nevada, State Center, Gilbert, Iowa State Center, Colo, Melbourne, Rhodes, Clemons, St. Anthony and Ames Municipal Airport. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. For the latest stream observations and forecasts refer to weather.gov/desmoines/water. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

In west central Iowa, Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie and Sac. * WHEN...Through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
