Flood Watch issued September 16 at 11:13AM MDT until September 17 at 6:00AM MDT by NWS Salt Lake City UT * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of Utah, including the following areas, Bryce Canyon Country, Southern Mountains, Upper Sevier River Valleys, Lower Washington County and Southwest Utah. * WHEN...From 6 PM MDT this evening through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, dry washes, slot canyons, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations such as slickrock areas and recent burn scars. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - An area of showers and thunderstorms will develop into southwest Utah this evening. The period of heaviest rainfall potential will be overnight especially after 9 PM MDT this evening through the early morning hours on Thursday. Special Weather Statement issued September 16 at 6:17PM MDT by NWS Salt Lake City UT At 617 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8 miles southwest of Bryce Canyon National Park, or 34 miles northeast of Kanab, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Bryce Canyon National Park, Tropic, Cannonville, and Rubys Inn. This includes Utah Route 12 between mile markers 11 and 15, and between mile markers 17 and 27. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
