Special Weather Statement issued September 18 at 3:24PM EDT by NWS Louisville KY At 324 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 6 miles west of New Albany, or 13 miles northwest of Louisville, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Louisville, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Jeffersontown, St. Matthews, Shively, Lyndon, Middletown, Douglass Hills and Hurstbourne. Monitor the weather situation closely and be alert for threatening weather conditions. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
