Flash Flood Warning issued September 11 at 5:59PM EDT until September 11 at 10:30PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA At 559 PM EDT, Emergency management reported thunderstorms producing flash flooding in portions of north Clayton and south Fulton counties, including at the interchange of I-85 and I-285 and near Forest Park. Between 2.5 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Atlanta, Jonesboro, City of South Fulton, East Point, Union City, Forest Park, Riverdale, College Park, Morrow, Hapeville, Lake City, Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, Conley, Fort Gillem, Lakewood Park, Ellenwood, Gresham Park and Rex. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
