Coastal Flood Watch issued September 22 at 4:00AM EDT until September 26 at 12:00AM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC * WHAT...2 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level possible in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...Areas along the beaches of the Outer Banks, especially on Hatteras and Ocraoke Island. * WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening. Most significant impacts expected during the Thursday evening and Friday morning high tide cycles. * IMPACTS...Up to 2 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in some areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in an elevated threat of property damage. Flooding may extend inland from the waterfront threatening some homes and businesses. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. Vulnerable areas along Highway 12 on Ocracoke and Hatteras Island are especially at risk for inundation from the oceanside. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
