Little Sioux River above Spencer / Highway 18 affecting Clay County. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Little Sioux River at Cherokee. * WHEN...Until early Friday morning. * IMPACTS...At 24.0 feet, County Highway C38E is closed due to flooding, and the water reaches the northwest corner of 2nd Street and Beech Street in Cherokee. Water also reaches the front of the B&H feed store. County Road C44 between Highway 159 and County Road L56 is flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:00 AM CDT Monday the stage was 23.6 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 7:00 AM CDT Monday was 23.6 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage early Thursday morning and continue falling to 14.6 feet Saturday morning. - Flood stage is 17.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Excessive Heat Warning issued June 24 at 1:58PM CDT until June 24 at 8:00PM CDT by NWS Sioux Falls SD * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111. * WHERE...In Iowa, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Plymouth, Ida, and Woodbury Counties. In Nebraska, Dakota and Dixon Counties. In South Dakota, Clay, Union, and Yankton Counties. * WHEN...Until 8 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed.
