Wind Advisory issued June 17 at 5:47PM CDT until June 17 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS * WHAT...For the Blowing Dust Advisory, visibility between one-quarter and one mile in blowing dust. For the Wind Advisory, south winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * WHERE...Barton, Ellsworth, Lincoln, Russell, and Saline Counties. * WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Persons with respiratory problems should make preparations to stay indoors until the storm passes. Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility to near zero. If you encounter blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn the lights all the way off and keep foot off the brake pedal. Remember, 'Pull Aside, Stay Alive'. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Special Weather Statement issued June 17 at 5:35PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS Wind gusts around 40 to 55 mph are promoting localized areas of blowing dust, particularly in the vicinity of recently plowed fields. Reduced visibility along Interstate 70 has already caused accidents along the interstate, and traffic cameras show localized areas of significantly reduced visibility between Russell and Hays. If traveling in the area this afternoon and evening, it is imperative to exercise extra caution in areas of reduced visibility. Locations impacted include... Salina, Great Bend, Russell, Ellsworth, Hoisington, Ellinwood, Wilson, Claflin, Kanopolis, Lincoln, Holyrood, Assaria, Gypsum, Lucas, Gorham, Sylvan Grove, Geneseo, Brookville, Pawnee Rock, and Smolan. This includes the following highways... Interstate 135 between Mile Markers 78 and 95. Interstate 70 between Mile Markers 176 and 266.
