Heat Advisory issued July 5 at 2:38PM EDT until July 5 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC * WHAT...Heat index values around 105. * WHERE...The Coastal Plain, northeast Piedmont, and eastern Sandhills of North Carolina. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temperatures and heat index values will decrease abruptly in and around scattered showers and thunderstorms, and associated rain-cooled air. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 4:41PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 441 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 6 miles southwest of Creedmoor to 7 miles west of Wake Forest to near Raleigh. Movement was northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts 45 to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Creedmoor, Wake Forest, Franklinton, Rolesville, Youngsville, Falls Lake, Falls Lake State Rec Area, Falls Lake Boat Ramp, and Purnell. This includes the following highways... Interstate 440 between Mile Markers 3 and 11. Interstate 540 between Mile Markers 5 and 21. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
