Heat Advisory issued July 4 at 12:24PM EDT until July 4 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Columbia SC * WHAT...Heat index values up to 106 expected. * WHERE...Portions of east central Georgia and central South Carolina. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Special Weather Statement issued July 4 at 6:58PM EDT by NWS Columbia SC At 657 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Aiken Municipal Airport, or 11 miles northeast of Aiken. This storm was nearly stationary. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Aiken, North Augusta, Aiken Municipal Airport, Citizens Park, USC Aiken, Graniteville, Hopeland Gardens, Vaucluse, and Murphys Estates. This includes Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 7 and 32. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
