Special Weather Statement issued September 20 at 3:23AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 322 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Washington to near Lake Vesuvius. Movement was east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Parkersburg, Ironton, Belpre, Point Pleasant, Gallipolis, Ripley, Harrisville, Pomeroy, Elizabeth, Racine, Coolville, Rutland, Lake Vesuvius, Forked Run State Park, Ravenswood, New Haven, Eleanor, Buffalo, Mason, and Sandyville. This includes the following highways... Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 128 and 176. Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 1 and 37, and between mile markers 43 and 46. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
