Special Weather Statement issued July 20 at 10:07PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 1006 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Pope AAF, or near Fort Bragg, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Fayetteville, Lillington, Fort Bragg, Dunn, Benson, Godwin, Pope AAF, Spring Lake, Erwin, and Eastover. This includes the following highways... Interstate 95 between Mile Markers 81 and 55. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 320 and 345. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
