Air Quality Alert issued July 18 at 7:05AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection - Air Quality Division has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates for West Virgina until midnight EDT tonight. Elevated fine particulate matter levels are anticipated to drop as the day goes on today. A code Orange air quality alert means members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is less likely to be affected, but sensitive groups should take additional precautions. These groups include children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity. Check the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency`s www.AirNow.gov website for current air monitor readings.

Special Weather Statement issued July 18 at 2:31PM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 230 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Anmoore to 6 miles north of Gassaway. Movement was northeast at 35 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Buckhannon, Weston, Philippi, Sutton, Gassaway, Jackson Mill, Stonewall Jackson, Rock Cave, Burnsville, Lost Creek, Jane Lew, Flatwoods, Eden, Cleveland, Little Birch, Kanawha Head, Ireland, Overhill, French Creek, and Diana. This includes the following highways... Interstate 79 between mile markers 45 and 111. Route 19 between mile markers 64 and 68. Route 33 between mile markers 1 and 17. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
