Red Flag Warning issued June 27 at 12:52PM MDT until June 27 at 6:00PM MDT by NWS Salt Lake City UT * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 478 Salt Lake Desert, mainly southern portions. * WINDS...West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph will persist across southern portions of zone 478 through this afternoon. A cold front will turn winds northerly by early evening. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 to 15 percent this afternoon in southern portions of zone 478. RH climbing above 20 percent early this evening with the passage of a cold front. * IMPACTS...Critical fire weather conditions are expected. Any new fire starts or existing fires may spread rapidly. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now...or are imminent. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Special Weather Statement issued June 27 at 1:36PM MDT by NWS Salt Lake City UT At 135 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Magna, or 8 miles northwest of West Valley City, moving northeast at 50 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Bountiful, Farmington, Morgan, Coalville, North Salt Lake, Centerville, Woods Cross, West Bountiful, East Canyon State Park, Salt Lake City International Airport, Emigration Canyon, Magna, Henefer, Portersville, Echo, Richville, Echo Reservoir, and Croydon. This includes the following highways... Interstate 15 between mile markers 308 and 323. Interstate 84 between mile markers 102 and 119. Interstate 80 in Utah between mile markers 106 and 119, and between mile markers 160 and 170. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
