At 936 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 11 nm northeast of Essex Village to near Niantic Bay to Little Peconic Bay, moving east at 45 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. strong thunderstorms will be near... Dering Harbor, Gardiners Bay, Orient Point, Plum Island, Niantic Bay, New London Harbor, and Shelter Island around 940 PM EDT. Stonington, Gardiners Island, and The Race around 945 PM EDT. Fishers Island, Fishers Island Sound, and Western Block Island Sound around 950 PM EDT. Montauk Point around 1005 PM EDT. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Wind gusts 34 knots or greater, high waves, lightning, and heavy rain are expected with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
