Flood Advisory issued July 9 at 1:08PM EDT until July 9 at 4:15PM EDT by NWS Upton NY * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey, including the following counties, Hudson and Union and southeast New York, including the following counties, Kings (Brooklyn) and Richmond (Staten Island). * WHEN...Until 415 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 104 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms across Middlesex county NJ producing rainfall rates of up to 2"/hr. This will cause urban and small stream flooding once it moves into the area. - Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, locally 3" possible, over portions of the area through 4pm. This rain will result in minor to moderate flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Flatbush, Bayonne, Plainfield, Linden, Coney Island, Todt Hill, Crown Heights, The Verrazano Narrows Bridge, Huguenot, Canarsie, Bay Ridge, Port Richmond, Brooklyn Heights, Tottenville, Clark, Tompkinsville, Oakwood, Bensonhurst, Park Slope and Sheepshead Bay. - This includes the following Event Locations... Special Weather Statement issued July 9 at 12:38PM EDT by NWS Upton NY At 1238 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Somerville to North Brunswick Township to Clearbrook Park. Movement was east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Strong thunderstorms will be near... Plainfield around 1250 PM EDT. Tottenville and Clark around 105 PM EDT. Linden and Huguenot around 115 PM EDT. Elizabeth and Oakwood around 120 PM EDT. Todt Hill and Port Richmond around 125 PM EDT. Newark and Bayonne around 130 PM EDT. The Verrazano Narrows Bridge and Bay Ridge around 135 PM EDT. Jersey City and Coney Island around 140 PM EDT. Battery Park and Park Slope around 145 PM EDT. This includes the following event locations Brooklyn Bridge Park, Sports Illustrated Stadium, Liberty State Park, Governors Island, Sullivans Homeport Pier, Battery Park, Hoboken Waterfront, Hudson River Park Pier 34, and Hunters Point. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
