For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 105 expected. * WHERE...Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Southern Oneida, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates Counties. * WHEN...For the Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the Extreme Heat Warning, from 11 AM Wednesday to 8 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The hottest temperatures will be in urban valley locations during the mid to late afternoon timeframes when the heat index could climb as high as 105 to 110 degrees. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
